Current exhibition in Vianden: Robi Gottlieb-Cahen and Zaïga Baiza

Vianden Until the 10th august, the exhibition of Zaïga Baiza (glass-sculptures) and Robi Gottlieb-Cahen (paintings) can be visited.

Born in Riga (Latvia) on 16 July 1964, Zaïga Baiza lives in Luxembourg since 1999. Today, she works with different glass techniques in her studio in Asselborn, Luxembourg. She loves glass as a material - fascinated by light and shadow in various depths of glass, the creative process always brings the artist back to the mystique of nature, she is intrigued by structures that seem fragile despite the strength they possess: "When light passes through it, it tells a story with shadows, lines, figures and gestures captured." (Zaiga Baiza). Since 2006 she organises the "International Glass Festival" in Luxembourg.

Robi Gottlieb-Cahen's process is as much about revealing as it is about creating. He builds his canvases in successive layers of handmade inks and pigments, often applying acid to remove certain parts of the surface. The result is an interplay of textures between the visible and the invisible. In the series "Non-swimmers", that are part of the exhibition, anonymous figures inhabit stark and enigmatic landscapes. Their trajectory - towards new hope or abandonment - remains uncertain. Gottlieb-Cahen invites us to witness the full humanity in a delicate representation of autonomy and fragility that confronts and deconstructs conventional ideals.
