General Assembly 2026 – A Look Back and Ahead

President Bart de Norre welcomed the members and honored guests, including Mayor Monique Hermes, representatives of the City of Grevenmacher, and delegates of the UGDA. In his address, he highlighted 2025 as an important turning point: after the departure of long-time conductor Martin Elmquist, the choir was able to appoint a dedicated new conductor, Salome Harms-Sanchez, in March.

An Active Year 2025

Secretary Thessy Demuth emphasized the choir’s dynamic year in her report: 5 concerts and performances, participation in 10 church services, and involvement in many local events. Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation with local partners and associations that contribute to the city’s vibrant cultural life.

The financial report, presented by treasurer Marco Wagner, showed the financial situation transparently. The auditors confirmed correct and exemplary bookkeeping, and the General Assembly discharged and reconfirmed the committee.

The Committee 2026

The committee will continue in the new year with its experienced members. While Hellen Meijer is taking a break, Denise Ronk and Kurt Fantes have once again made themselves available for a mandate.

Major Projects 2026

Conductor Salome Harms-Sanchez presented exciting plans for the future. Three major concerts are planned together with the Elwenter Musek featuring epic film music. In addition, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (3 cantatas) is on the program, with planned performances in cooperation with the Maacher Music School and the Muselfenkercher. For 2027, a program featuring works by contemporary composers, including Karl Jenkins, as well as lesser-known classical masters, is envisioned.

Honors and Thanks

During the assembly, several members were awarded a “Médaille de mérite” in recognition of their many years of dedication. The mayor thanked the choir for its cultural and social contribution and praised its commitment to events, retirement homes, and community projects.

Participation in the commemorative concert at the Philharmonie Luxembourg was also highlighted as a special moment. Finally, the choir’s involvement in solidarity initiatives such as Relais pour la vie 2026 was mentioned.
